Nelsonville

In 1888, Nelsonville became the first city in the country west of the Allegheny Mountains to install citywide electric street lights. Nelsonville owes its existence to coal mining, and most likely the owner of this home and those on Madison Street were employed by the mines. In recent years a more artistic revival of sorts has come to the town, which revolves around a historic downtown district called Public Square.

The city has several significant employers too, including Rocky Brands corporate offices, Hocking College, Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail and several more educational and business employers. A bit of trivia – Sarah Jessica Parker is from Nelsonville.
