c.1905 Pretty in Pink Iowa Foursquare For Sale in Historic District Under $190K
OHU50K Notes $189,999
This pretty in pink Iowa foursquare for sale was built in 1905 and has original hardwood floors throughout. The roof is metal and has a 50 year guarantee, installed in 2001. Whole house generator still under warranty. The oversized 2 car garage is 24×28. The beautiful landscaping is perennial. I’m not too keen on the kitchen, too much knotty pine for me (and a black ceiling?), but I do love the unpainted woodwork and stained glass.

Location of This Iowa Foursquare For Sale
The Columbia Avenue Historic District in Davenport, Iowa, is a residential area with architectural significance and charm. Here are some pros and cons of living in or visiting a historic district like this one:
Pros:
- Architectural Charm and Character:
- The district features a variety of architectural styles, often including Victorian, Colonial Revival, and other historic designs, adding a unique aesthetic appeal.
- Historic Preservation:
- Being a part of a historic district means that homes and buildings are often preserved to maintain their original character. This can be appealing for history buffs or those who appreciate vintage architecture.
- Cultural and Historical Significance:
- Living in a historic district often gives residents a sense of pride in being part of a culturally significant area with a rich local history.
- Community Engagement:
- Historic districts sometimes foster tight-knit communities with events, preservation efforts, and a shared appreciation for maintaining the area’s history.
- Potential Property Value:
- Homes in historic districts can hold their value well or even appreciate more than similar homes in non-historic areas due to their unique character and restrictions on new developments.
- Aesthetic Appeal:
- The district is likely to be more visually appealing, with mature trees, well-maintained homes, and streetscapes that reflect historic charm.
Cons:
- Strict Regulations:
- There are often stringent rules governing renovations and exterior changes to homes to preserve the historical integrity of the neighborhood. This can limit personal freedom for homeowners who wish to modernize or make significant changes to their property.
- Maintenance Costs:
- Older homes tend to require more maintenance, and the cost of restoration or upkeep of historic features can be high. Materials and labor for preserving historic elements can be more expensive than standard renovations.
- Limited Modern Amenities:
- Historic homes may lack modern conveniences or be more difficult to retrofit for energy efficiency, modern plumbing, or electrical needs.
- Parking and Traffic:
- Historic districts sometimes have narrower streets and limited parking due to their design in earlier eras when fewer cars were on the road.
- Tourism or Public Attention:
- Living in a historic district may come with more tourists or visitors, especially if the area is part of a walking tour or has notable landmarks. This can sometimes interfere with privacy.
- Potential Property Restrictions:
- In some cases, properties within the district may have restrictions on expanding or altering structures, which could limit options for remodeling or adding modern features.
If you enjoy history and architectural beauty and don’t mind some restrictions, the Columbia Avenue Historic District can be a wonderful place to live or visit.
