Wow. Get rid of the white paint slathering, and this place would be an amazing historic home.

What a beauty! I househunted in Decatur in 2019, specifically looking in this price level. The West End is gorgeous and quiet. It would be a nice neighborhood to ride bikes or walk a dog in. The realtor told me at the time that this neighborhood used to be rough but was improving. There’s a small, beautiful college campus several blocks east (Milliken) and a quaint downtown that caters to a college crowd. On the other side of the college is another historic neighborhood. I did get a somewhat stagnant vibe while strolling around on my own, like if I lost my job it would be hard to rebound in Decatur. At the time, I worked remotely for a strong company and was planning to retire, so I wasn’t really worried about that. It is something for most to consider, though. Springfield is about 40 miles of easy highway from Decautur and wouldn’t be a bad commute. Decatur was my second choice — a Pennsylvania town came in first. But if I had it to do all over, I’d househunt in Decatur again. It is such a pretty town.
