2221 W Kentucky St, Louisville, KY 40210. $47,000
This appealing house sits opposite the green at Victory Park. I love the home’s checkerboard floors.
Charles Ferdinand Bader (1865-1923), a meat cutter, had this home built for his family in 1915. He resided here with his wife Mary Schiller Bader (1868-1928), a German immigrant whom Charles had married in 1896, his son Robert and daughter Anne Marie. The family owned a white bulldog that they lost in 1925. Apparently, the Baders may have been having hard times in the years preceding the Great Depression, as many household and personal items were advertised for sale in the local newspaper. Sadly, Charles died in the home at the age of 58.
