c.1924 Fixer Upper in Dayton, OH $40K
501 Kenilworth Ave, Dayton, OH 45405.ย $40,000
Fixer Upper

OHU50K NOTES
I believe this home was a McKnight-Built house. Edward E. McKnight built many of the stick-built homes on the 200 and 300 block of Kenilworth Avenue. You can tell by looking at the Google Map Street View that three or four stick built styles were built by McKnight. McKnight built houses featured tiled bath, breakfast nook, built-in bookcases and fireplace, all of which this home at #501 Kenilworth still retains.
Family History
Herbert Landisย (1895-1967) had this home built for himself, his wife Edith Gillen Landis (1896-1968) in 1924. A year after moving into the home, Edith gave birth to their one and only child Herbert Jr.. Herbert Sr. was a sales manager for a register company, and per the 1930 USย Census, the property was valued at $12,000 that year โ $196,600 in today’s dollars. Herbertย Sr. died in 1967, but Edith continued to live in the home until her death a year later. That makes 44 tears that the Landis family owned the home. I am sure they would be saddened to see the condition of the home and the rise of neighborhood crime today.
