Cheapish c.1890 Queen Anne Victorian For Sale in Charming Pennsylvania Town $175K – The James Cochran House
OHU50K Notes $175,000
This wonderful Queen Anne Victorian was built in 1890. It is the James Cochran House. It sits on a corner lot in the middle of a charming little town of 352 residents. I am in love, not only with this four bedroom, 1.5 beauty, but with the town as well. In fact, we featured the gorgeous commercial building across the street a couple of years ago. The wealth of architectural gems in this town is amazing. It has been said that a millionaire lived on every corner in town back in the day. Too much to drool over about this house, but be sure not to miss the Turkish room!

History
Around the turn of the century, Dawson was a thriving town of 890 residents who were employed by the railroads, coal and coke ovens. James Cochran and his brother Mordecai made their fortune in the mining and coke industry. The James Cochran House, aka “Little Jim’s House,” has a prominent place in town, befitting the family who was extremely generous to the town of Dawson. They put in a municipal water system, paved roads and built a Methodist church.
Sarah Dawson, in particular, was a much beloved figure in Dawson. After she tragically lost both her husband and only child, she built several more churches in town and taught Sunday School. She was also a staunch supporter of women’s rights and women’s causes.
