Family History
Lucien Gooding, a conductor for the Pennsylvania Railroad, had this house built for his family, wife Ida, and daughter Bertha, sometime right before the 1900 US Census was taken. The family lived in the home for 50 years until Ida’s death in 1949. Lucien had passed away in 1924. The couple owned the house outright with no mortgage, and they paid for Bertha to attend Elmira College, from which she earned a Bachelor’s Degree.
