Indiana Landmarks seeks a new owner for the National Register-listed Richsquare Meetinghouse built in 1895. The Romanesque Revival-style building represents one of the earliest religious structures in the area and retains the original Akron Plan design. The impressive sanctuary centers around the pulpit in the northeast corner, with concentric rings of pews radiating away from it. National Church Company of Richmond, Indiana, built the distinctive pews in the meetinghouse. The women’s sanctuary is separated from the main sanctuary by two striking eight-foot partitions that can be raised into the ceiling. Later congregations added a bathroom to the women’s sanctuary and a 1955 rear addition, including a kitchenette. Indiana Landmarks recently repaired the heating and cooling systems.

Straughn is located in Henry County and has a population of approximately 258 residents. It is 26 miles west of Richmond along U.S. 40/Old National Road, and about an hour’s drive from Indianapolis and Dayton, Ohio. The meeting house will be sold subject to preservation covenants held by Indiana Landmarks governing exterior improvements.
