Silver Streak History

Silver Streak trailers have a rich history in the recreational vehicle (RV) industry. They were known for their quality craftsmanship, innovative designs, and luxurious features.

Founding and Early Years:

Silver Streak trailers were founded by Kenny Neptune in 1949 in El Monte, California. The company started as a small family-owned business that focused on manufacturing travel trailers. From the beginning, Silver Streak trailers stood out for their distinctive silver exteriors, which became their trademark feature.

The Silver Streak Design:

One of the notable characteristics of Silver Streak trailers was their aerodynamic design. The company used aircraft engineering principles to create sleek and streamlined trailers. The unique shape not only enhanced fuel efficiency but also gave Silver Streak trailers a futuristic and stylish appearance.

Expansion and Innovation:

As Silver Streak trailers gained popularity, the company expanded its product line and introduced various models to cater to different customer needs. They offered a range of sizes, from compact trailers to larger models with multiple slide-outs, providing ample living space.

Silver Streak was also known for its innovative features. They were one of the first manufacturers to incorporate aluminum frames and shells, which made their trailers lightweight and durable. The interiors boasted luxurious amenities, including full kitchens, spacious bathrooms, and comfortable sleeping arrangements.

Acquisition and Changes:

In the late 1970s, Silver Streak faced financial challenges, and the company was acquired by the Fleetwood Corporation in 1979. Following the acquisition, some changes were made to the design and production process of Silver Streak trailers. The new models featured updated floor plans and interior layouts, keeping up with the evolving preferences of RV enthusiasts.

Legacy and End of Production:

Despite the changes, Silver Streak trailers continued to be highly regarded within the RV community. However, in the early 2000s, the demand for the traditional travel trailer design started to decline in favor of motorhomes and fifth wheels. As a result, Silver Streak production eventually ceased, marking the end of an era for the brand.
