Sold – Handyman Special in Elmira, NY $30K
OHU50K NOTES. $30,000 Sold For $29,000 on 6/8/22
The realtor’s 1909 build date of this handyman special is incorrect, as the U.S. Census has the Maloney family living here in 1880. What a wonderful family home this could be again with its wrap-around porch, bay window and beautiful curved staircase. It is located just a five minute drive over the river to Elmira College, and I love the view of the church from the backyard of the house. Did you notice the second staircase?
2 story home with 4/5 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms . Located on a large lot with driveway and detached 2 car garage . This house needs some TLC. Newer windows throughout , Nice long driveway with turn around area for garage and partially fenced in backyard . The house has no electric or heat on right now . Selling “as is” Basement entrance is in the back. Per Listing

Family History
I find this amazing, that the Maloney family lived in this home for more than 140 years! Originally, this was the home of Dennis Maloney (b.1844) and his wife Lucy. Dennis came to the United States from Ireland as a young child, married Lucy Rogers (1855-1931), took a job as a machinist and had this house built for his family sometime before 1880. The couple had six sons who they raised here; Cornelius, John, Robert, Edmund, Gerald and Frances. The house has seen several deaths occur her, as well as funerals and births as it was passed down to children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren through the decades.

What is that ring in the yard? For conjuring under the light of the full moon?

Looks like a pool was there.

Looks like the house where my grandmother grew up- I think I remember a photo of her and her sister on those steps from when they were little girls-

I would love to see this home restored with love. Not for me though I’m closing on my home in Danville the end of April.

I asked my aunts and they were neighbors of the Maloney family. The photo of my grandmother and her sister was taken at their home because the Maloney family wanted to use their new camera. Neat!

I loved that house so much. So many memories of the Maloney family and my time spent there. My Father was the last to own it in the Maloney family. The last family to own it turned it into those pictures. My Father passed away last year. I wish I had the money to buy and put into it.

Thank you for sharing that. The home is contingent now, so let’s hope the new owners love it as much as your family did.

What a special house with such a fascinating history! It is amazing to think that it has been part of the Maloney family for over 140 years and still has the potential to become a wonderful family home again. Thank you for sharing.
