OHU50K NOTES
Many of the heads of family who lived on Pacific Street when this house was young worked for the steel mill. The owner of this home, John Koziara (1881-1962), a Polish Immigrant who came to the States in 1905, worked for the Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. for 40 years before his retirement in 1955. When he purchased the home in the 1920s, he resided here with his wife Katherine Malek Koziara, and their children George, John, Bernice and Helen, plus a boarder. Can you imagine having only one bathroom for seven people? Poor Mrs. Koziara had hardly any counter or cabinet space in her kitchen, too.
Mr. Koziara owned the home for 40 years up until his death in 1962. Per the 1930 US Census, the property was valued at $3,000 at that time.
