922 Dunn Station Rd, Prosperity, PA 15329 $24,000
History
The former one-room schoolhouse is actually in the tiny, rural village of Dunns Station. The community was founded when the Waynesburg and Washington Railroad opened in 1877. Stations were often named for the primary property owner who sold the right-of-way to the railroad. In this case, Daniel Dunn (1830–1886) owned around 340 acres.
At its peak in the 1920-1930s, about a dozen residences this one-room schoolhouse were located in Dunns Station. The railroad station housed the general store, post office, milk shed and privy. A baseball field by the railroad station was the place to be during the 1920s through the 1940s for community excitement.
As of 2013 the station, railroad, and some of the residential units in the vicinity no longer existed. The schoolhouse closed in the late 1940s.
