Save this old Victorian fixer upper. You can tell by the vergeboard, imbricated shingles and that hauntingly beautiful staircase that this was a lovely place in its day.  I couldn’t find the name, but apparently in 1918 it was the home of a single person who advertised for a “competent, settled woman for general housework,” so we know the original owner must have had some means.

Family History

It appears that after the original owner passed away, the house became a single-family rental, then eventually became a four-plex. In the 1920s and 1930s, Robert F. Coffman and his wife, Velma, rented the home.  They had one daughter, Shirley. Mr. Coffman was an educated man having completed three years of college. Robert and his father owned a bakery in Moberly for years, before owning a garage and eventually managing a life insurance company.
