Save This Old House – c.1850 Cheapish Maine Fixer Upper on 8 Acres w/ Water View $65K
OHU50K Notes $75,900 $85,000 Reduced to $65,ooo
Save this old house. I remember this home as one of the early homes I featured here on OHU50K. In 2018 we posted it here when it was priced at $47,000. The home, located on eight acres and with a view of Cook Cove, needed plenty of work then, and it needs plenty of work still. It has been off market for a few years, but its price history is schizophrenic. In February of 2021, the home was put back on the market for $52,000, then increased in price to $79,900 on April 20, 2021. Three days later, the fixer upper was reduced to $75,900, then taken off market again.
RE-listed at $85K, but now reduced to $65,000

Save this old house. 8 acres of forested steep sloping land with garage and historic house in need of major renovations. This house is ‘as is’ and will not qualify for most loans. Would be great to see this diamond in the rough be brought back to life. Located on Route 1, in Red Beach, eight miles from downtown Calais near the St Croix international park. There are water views of the St Croix River across the street.

In 2018 My husband and I drove from michigan to see this house. Lady had to meet us there, no one lived in the house but she did have a LOT of dogs in it, crapping all over the floors. Was sad. The foundation is petrifying and in need of total replacing. Acreage is useless. On a hill, all rock and right on a sharp curve in the road. House was loaded with really nice antiiques but she was selling those off. We offered 25,000 cash when it was listed for 40. I am SO glad she said no. We currently live a 1850 farmhouse in Maine we restored and love it. I did LOVE the way this house must have been at one time. Really gorgeous, but unless someone wants to spend 250,000 and many years this house is not going to make it. Its in super bad shape and the lady is very hard to deal with. Probably why the crazy price changes.

@Andrea wow…good for you that you dodged that one!! Terrible.
Do you mind sharing your experience on how you found your farmhouse?
Have you restored homes before? I’m just beginning to learn about this as an option for myself. Especially since the real estate market today is becoming extremely difficult for first time home buyers, I’m hoping I can find a diamond in the rough somewhere in the US. I had no idea that websites like this one existed. It’s a brand new world to me and I’m quite excited to continue learning.
