Family History
This was the home of John D. Lynch (1856-1932). He married Abigail Brennan (1861- 1946) in 1883. Such a handsome couple. The couple raised their seven children in the home, Rose, John, Florence, James, Grace, William and Louise, with the help of a live-in servant, Myrtle Jones. The family lived in the home from 1903 through the 1930s.
I love this story found in Find-A-Grave.
“Brought to America at the age of 3 months old in 1856.The story is told that his parents smuggled him aboard a famine ship because small babies were not allowed. His father worked on the railroads. They settled in Illinois. Married Abigail Brennan on 4/28/1883. A man of great ambition and integrity. He was the Vice President of Brown,Lynch and Scott company in Monmouth, Ill. President of Monmouth Trust&Savings Bank. On the board of directors at Monmouth Library. Owned and ran Lynch Railroad Construction Co. Built hundreds of miles of rail. Sent all seven children to college and gave them each farmland in Warren and Henderson Counties.”
