After pulling up past our bustling downtown, the historic firehouse (Carlos’ Cantina), the beautiful Morgan Stanley building and our library, it is hard to miss this two story Victorian style fixer upper home, complete with a stained glass turret.
Constructed at some point in the 1890s, rumor has it that this was one of the original houses of Iron Mountain. Supposedly originally located on Carpenter Avenue, it was relocated in the early 20th century to where it stands today.
This 3 bedroom, 2 bath fixer upper sits in a quiet neighborhood at the bottom of Millie Hill. Featuring original woodwork, two staircases, the fully accessible turret, and a partially heated garage/workshop, this fixer-upper is absolutely waiting for the right touch to add a modern twist to restore it to its former glory.

115 W Walnut St, North Vernon, IN 47265 $25,900 ~ Pending
OHU50K NOTES
Located in a low crime neighborhood of older homes in North Vernon, Indiana, this c.1870 fixer upper boasts amazing woodwork. The built-ins, fireplace, molding and wainscoting are gorgeous. Plus the home has hardwood floors, transoms and new replacement windows. I’d hate to see a flipper come in and paint all the woodwork white. This fixer upper deserves a family who will love it.

26 Elmwood Ave, Friendship, NY 14739 $39,000 ~ Sold for $35k
OHU50K NOTES
Whenever I see a Second Empire, my heart skips a beat. This c.1890 fixer upper in Friendship, New York, is slathered in white and needs work, but most of the big stuff has already been done. And on this one, New York taxes are reasonable.
Second Empire style structures took inspiration from the skyline of Paris under the reign of Napoleon III during France’s Second Empire period. Wealthy Americans loved the flashy style, especially during the boom period following the Civil War under President Ulysses S. Grant. In fact, in some areas of the country, the architectural style was called the Grant style. That name never really caught on, though, especially in the South.

604 Union St, Bluefield, WV 24701 $35,000 ~ Contingent
OHU50K NOTES
What do you think? I like this c.1925 fixer upper in Bluefield, West Virginia, a lot. After any pressing work is completed, I am imagining a couple of Spanish tiles incorporated into the front steps, new front door and the carpets and all the knotty pine ripped out. Brown is not one of my favorite colors, so a new paint job on the trim and shutters is on my list, too.

Fixer upper with nice features. Hardwoods appear to be under the carpet.

OHU50K NOTES
If cold weather is to your liking, then this c.1903 fixer upper Dutch Colonial in Edmore, North Dakota, could be just the ticket. It has all the features one loves in an old home. I especially admire the bench that matches the staircase. And look! The finial is still attached to the newel post. Lots to appreciate about this one.
