OHU50K NOTES
This beautiful c.1905 Colonial Revival is known as the Elkin House. It is located in the South Central Aberdeen Historic District, a residential neighborhood of homes dating from 1848 to the 1970s. George W. Elkin was a druggist. He lived in this house for a short time before passing away in 1918. His second wife Juanita Williams Elkin continued to live in the home with her children, Lucille, Kathleen, Inez, Earl, Edmond and Arthur, until her death in 1938, at which time the house was handed down to the kids. Earl had opened the Elkin Theatre, also on the NRHP, in 1937. It was known as one of the finest and best equipped theatres in the south and still operates today.

Don’t miss this charming 5/2 Victorian home. Located on West Jefferson Street, only 4 previous owners have resided here. For those familiar with Aberdeen history, this is the Old Elkin Home and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Kitchen and bathrooms have been updated giving you the charm of an older home with the comfort of modern living. The roof, and hot water heater have been recently replaced. Stand-out features include beautiful woodwork, unique windows, gorgeous fireplace mantels and spacious rooms. Not only is this home move-in ready, but it is priced to sell! House being sold as is. It’s really refreshing to see a bargain priced house in such good condition and with so many intact original elements. Neglect and poorly designed and executed remodels adversely affect so many of the houses we see, often making them unrestorable. But this one’s great.

Aberdeen is a very nice community. I suspect many of the older houses are kept up because Aberdeen relies on antebellum home tourism.
