OHU50K NOTES
This c.1912 move-in ready home is located in the small town of Beaverville, IL (pop.362). I never realized there are so many midwestern small towns plunked in the middle of miles and miles of farmland.
Town History
Beaverville has its origins dating back to 1851. In that year families from Montreal, Canada, mostly newlyweds and singles, came up the St. Lawrence River in search of farmland on the prairie. They first stopped at Fort Dearborn (Chicago), before traveling south through swamps and frontier land until they reached what is now Beaverville.
The young French settlers, with surnames such as Dionne, Boudreau, Fortin, Benoit, Lafond, Besse, Nourie, Lafond, and Arseneau, named the town “St. Marie.” They loved the fertile land and all the creeks.
When the village founders realized another Illinois town had the same name, they renamed the community Beaverville for the profusion of beavers in the area.
