OHU50K NOTES
With the real estate market getting out of control, I am showing a couple of homes today that are $5K over our usual Under $100K Sunday posts. Both are beauties not to be missed. You can view the second home here.
First up is this c.1872 Italianate, one of the oldest surviving houses in Moberly, Missouri. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
History
Joseph Horace Burkholder (1833-1903) was a Virginia-born railroad contractor, sawmill operator, real estate developer, judge and prominent citizen of his community. who owned this home with his wife Susan Ann Davis Burkholder. They shared the home with their children Mary Helen, Bell and Paul. To read the full history of this beauty, see NRHP.
REALTOR COMMENTS
The former Burkholder-O’Keefe house is for sale! This grand ‘ole home built in 1872 is filled with style and character, and is waiting for someone to finish restoring it to its former glory! Recent upgrades include a new roof in 2012, newer hot water heat boiler, upgraded pex plumbing, major rewiring has occurred, major painting and scraping has occurred (but more is still needed), concrete floor poured in basement, upstairs bathroom has been gutted and needs completing. This wood-frame treasure is on the National Historical Register and was built in the I house-Italianate style. Google ”Burkholder O’Keefe house” to learn the history behind this gem! The interior still retains the original ceiling medallions,

I would definitely restore the fireplaces to fully functional via modern standards.

House is beautiful, with so many lovely ornate details. I always hold my breath, hoping to see original bath’s and kitchens intact…but alas, it’s so rare. I cringe at the remodeled versions.
