Realtor Comments
The main floor of the school has an old kitchen / cafeteria area, an office area and 2 other rooms that were converted into studio apartments with 2 small bedrooms and bath area, as well as an additional classroom. The second floor has a gym / stage, a classroom and an area converted into a 2 bedroom, 1 bath studio apartment. The basement area has hand cut stone walls and contains the old locker room, boiler room and a storage room. With some cleaning and renovation, this schoolhouse could be restored and made into a one-of-a-kind country home, a unique retreat / get away for the family, airbnb potential or could be restored as a community center. The property is located about 10 minutes to Cedar Creek State Park and less than 30 minutes to Glenville and Glenville State University or I-79 at Burnsville and Burnsville Dam and Lake. There are no restrictions or zoning on this property and plenty of room for other structures, gardens, orchards, and even a cow or horse. There is electric into the school and a water well on the property. There are many possibilities for this historic property.

History
The Cedarville School was built in 1923 from the plans of J.W. West and Sons, Gilmer County’s best-known builder, at a cost of $10,500. Members of the community used their own horses and machinery to excavate the property. It initially served as the Junior High School. In 1943, it was reduced to a grade school.
The stuccoed building sits on a foundation of locally quarried stone, and the exterior appears much like it did when the last classes were held there in 1968. After it sold at public auction to the Cedarville Community Council, it sat vacant for several years until a new owner purchased it in 1982 and made apartments in it.
During the years the building operated as a school, the bell tower and cupola were removed, fire doors were installed as well as gas heating installed. The bell was moved from place to place until it found its resting location on the side of the front lawn under a little shelter.
