Before and After ~ The Fultonham NY Octagon House
This octagon house is located in my old neck of the woods in Schoharie County, New York, arguably the most beautiful area of the state.
We owned a 15-acre farmette just down the road in Cobleskill in the mid-1980s and would pass this octagon house often. In fact, when it was up for sale as a fixer upper in June 2018 for $49,900, OHU50K featured the home. I was hoping to show before and after photos, but I had deleted the fixer upper photos months ago. Still, you can get a taste of how a new owner renovated the place after a flood in 2011. Apparently, he purchased it for $29,000 in October 2018, fixed it up and had the 1.73-acre property on the market for $239,000.

History
Built in 1853 near the base of Vroman’s Nose, a local landmark, the octagon house originally was a duplex, built for the use of two brothers, farmers John Calvin Mattice (1823-1892) and Henry Mattice (1821-1891) and their families. The home had no front hall, because the house was split in half, each brother with his own staircase.
