OHU50K NOTES

I am so thrilled when I can trace a family living in the same house for decades! It is always my hope that a new family will appreciate a house more knowing it’s history.

Family History

It appears this was the home of a German immigrant, Ludwig William Jipp (1845-1932)  and his wife Henrietta (1854-1934). The couple married in the early 1870s in Germany, came to America in 1873, settled in Davenport and purchased this home sometime in the 1890s. Ludwig was a carpenter with his own contracting business. They had one daughter, Dorothea Jipp Roddewig, who passed away in 1909 at age 35 of consumption, leaving behind her husband Albert and 2-year-old son Harold.

Apparently, Albert started a second family and left grandson Harold to live with his grandparents. After his grandparents deaths, Harold inherited the home in the 1930s. Harold, an architectural engineer for Alco-Aluminum, lived in the home with his wife, Alice, and their two sons, Eugene and Ronald. Harold passed away in 1966, but Alice continued to live in the home until her death in 1993.

That means that the same family lived in this home for almost 100 years!
