History
In 1872, John D. Neligh friends ventured up the Elkhorn River and took note of the scenic landscape, believing it would be the perfect place for a town and the county seat. He immediately purchased 520 acres for the town site.
Shortly after founding the town, Neligh built the Neligh Mill in the southern section of town. The original two-story mill was built with clay bricks made locally. Today, the mill is a Nebraska State Historical site.
