Family History
Dr. Leslie Williams Brownfield (1879-1958) married Lola Evelyn Burchinal (1883-1958) in 1908 and soon after purchased this home. As a member of the U.S. Sons of the American Revolution, Dr. Brownfield came from a long line of distinguished men. His father was Judge John Brownfield. Going back to 1740, Thomas Brownfield was a successful farmer and mill owner.
The good doctor and Lola raised their children, Alicia and Charles, in this fine home, and the couple continued to live in the home until their deaths in 1958. They enjoyed the house for 50 years before Leslie died in July 158, and Lola died of a broken heart in December 1958.
