Circa 1918 Fixer Upper Craftsman Bungalow in Fort Scott, KS $55K – Sold

This craftsman, built in 1918, has abundant character, but needs some TLC to bring it back to its original beauty. Following a recent water line leak, the home was professionally serviced to remove all wet plaster and prevent any issues with mold. It is now ready and waiting to be put back together, allowing for the owner to put their personal touch as they finish it to their liking. The tall ceilings, multitude of windows, and attractive woodwork remain unharmed, and set a welcoming, warm tone. Customize and update this home the way you desire, while still complimenting and honoring the coveted historical charm that can’t be recreated. SOLD AS-IS. Per Listing

Family History

Mr. and Mrs. William Kramer were the original owners of this bungalow. After an elderly friend died in the home, the couple sold the home to Hugh Coyan (1872-1960) and his wife Myrtle Morgan Coyan (1877-1952). Hugh owned Coyan Furniture Store at 117 Market St. (now demolished), and in 1940 valued the home at $6,000, the equivalent of $122,000 today.

I’m a huge fan of Victorian colors but not in a craftsman! This has to be the absolute most tragic use of paint I’ve ever seen! They even painted the limestone !
There’s got to be $20,000 in remediating their bad taste and drywall work? What a pity.

Spectacular house. Must have been one heck of a leak but looks like the situation is under control. Any insights on unusual ceiling in kitchen and one other room?
