Family History
This was the estate of Lewis (1858-1920) and Anna Remensnyder. The couple married in 1888 and had three children, Martin, Christina and Anna. Lewis, of German descent, supported the family as a blacksmith. After Lewis passed away in 1920, the home was passed down to his son, Martin.
Martin and his wife amassed a huge collection of antiques and collectibles, and often held social and cultural events in their “cottage,” as it was called in newspaper articles. In 1962, the couple’s worldly goods were sold at public auction along with the house due to the Remensnyders’ ill health.
