Save this old house. The realtor’s build date of 1930 is incorrect, because, per US Census records, Roland S. Bailey (1885-1959) and his family owned the home since the 1910s. Roland was an assistant manger for a lumber company. I love the small details I found. At the time Roland owned the home, he was described as a tall man of medium build with blue eyes and brown and gray hair. He lived here with his wife Edna and his children Kent and Rose. Edna was a member of The Women’s Christian Temperance Union and often held meetings at her home.
By the 1950s, the home had been divided into apartments, the top renting for $50/month in 1959.
I can only assume that the house originally had more property, because it is now surrounded by 1930s bungalows and a 1960s subdivision of ranch houses. This property might be a hard sell due to its condition and the high crime neighborhood.
LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION!! GREAT INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY! Needs some TLC but has great potential! Original Mahogany Entry Doors, hardwood flooring throughout, additional sq ft upstairs! Home sits on two beautiful lots, decorated with mature trees! Conveniently located right in the center of fast-growing city of Muskogee, and next to major highways! Selling AS IS. Don’t miss this opportunity, will sell fast!
I doubt very much that the mahogany doors are original to the house. Looks to me like they were framed in to fit a space that was larger. This house probably had a single door with a window, and sidelights.
Just noticed that, Yes, the doors look more 1960s to me.
Judging by the construction as a restorer the house is 1880-1890
