Under $100K Sunday – c.1900 Ohio Fixer Upper With River View Under $85K
OHU50K Notes $84,500
Well, this is an interesting turn of events. We first featured this Ohio fixer upper in 2019 when it was listed at $49,900. It then was incrementally reduced to $29,900 by February 2020. Subsequently the home was re-listed at $69,900, then sold for $65,000. Well, the seven bedroom, 2.5 bath home with views of the Ohio River is on the market again for $84,500. Although train tracks run between the house and river, the Ohio appears to be too close for comfort. Also, it appears that this section of Riverside Drive has no direct vehicle access. I guess residents park in the church lot next door.
In any event, I have included a slew of photos from two previous year’s listings that you will not find on the current MLS pages. Plus, family history.

Family History
The fixer upper was the home of attorney, and later judge, Philip M. Smith (1852-1929) and his wife Ida McKeehan Smith (1855-1939). The couple purchased the home sometime after 1900. After Philip passed away in 1929, the widow Smith shared the home with her widowed daughter Zana S. McCrea who moved out soon after her mother’s death in 1938.
According to the 1930 US Census, they owned a radio set, and the home was valued at $10,000.
The home probably was a stunner in its day and could be again, but take a look at the photo of the rear of the house to see just how close the river is.
