Family History

Louis Fischer, of German descent, purchased the lot on w. 7th Street in 1880 and constructed the house the same year.  Mr. Fischer owned a brickyard, so it is interesting that he clad his house in redwood clapboard from California. He did, however, use fired bricks in the walls for insulation. He also built a two-story brick building in town which today houses H&R Block and the Masonic Hall.

Mr. and Mrs. Fischer had two sons, Oscar and Adolph. It appears that they also owned and operated Louis Fischer’s Mammoth Store, which sold everything under the sun.
