OHU50K NOTES
Save this old house. It will take deep pockets, but this fixer upper Italianate on 1.25 rural acres could be a show stopper.

Family History

This was the home of Charles L. Wooster (1835 to 1885). Charles was a farmer.  Born in Litchfield, Conn., October 10, 1835, he came West to Momence, Illinois, with his parents in 1838.  He was educated at the district school and at Momence Graded School.
Charles succeeded his father, Col. Lyman Wooster, in the management of the farm along side his mother Mary, brother Emery and sister Mary. Lyman began purchasing land in Momence in 1839, and over the years owned about 450 acres. By 1860 his farm was worth $34,300, $1,060,000 in today’s dollars. He amassed quite a fortune which he left to Charles after his death in 1873. It was some time after this that Charles built this home on the family acreage. He ran the family farm until his death in 1885.
According to records, Charles enlisted in the Civil War as a private in Company D, Illinois 71st Infantry Regiment on 22 Jul 1862 and mustered out on 29 Oct 1862 at Chicago, IL. The records indicate he was a short man, only 5’1″, with brown hair, blue eyes and dark complexion.
Charles lived in this gorgeous home with his wife Lydia Lovejoy, a native of Cambridge, Washington Co, N.Y., and to whom he married in September of 1870.  Lydia moved into town after the death of her husband, and with no children, remained a widow until her death in 1927.

REALTOR COMMENTS

Save this old house. Home being sold as-is . This once glorious Victorian home could be restored for a single family home or a B & B! This house has so much potential for the right person. Five fireplaces throughout the home. In it’s day this house had beautiful crown molding and woodwork. A spiral staircase leads up to a third floor cupola.
This home needs a lot of work but could be absolutely breathtaking. Beautiful setting, 1.25 acres. The last photo was given to the owner from the Historical Society, it was taken when the original owner had the home.
