OHU50K NOTES

History

This home was built for the  JW Stephenson family. JW was a manufacturer who lived here with his wife Edith and daughters Helen, Mary, Mildred and Dorothy, along with two servants.
The estate was designed by Samuel Plato, Indiana’s first licensed African American architect. At one time, Marion boasted several structures attributed to Samuel Plato. Today, only a few of his designs remain, including the J. Woodrow Wilson House, a Colonial Revival/Georgian Revival built in 1912 and shown below.

REALTOR COMMENTS

Save this old house. Now is your chance to own one of the most historic properties in Marion. This American Arts & Crafts style house & carriage house was built in 1909. The main house had all the masonry restored and new roof installed within the past year. The interior offers leaded glass windows, fireplace, hardwood floors, pocket doors with leaded glass, crown molding & so much more.
Gorgeous Oak stairway, leads to a landing with beautiful built ins & leaded glass windows. A third floor attic has plenty of room for storage or could be used as additional living space.
A two-story carriage house is also included, big enough for 3 cars and living space on the 2nd floor. Possible uses for the property include a private home, B&B, professional office, retail or cafe. There is plenty of onsite parking to serve your business needs.
The exterior has a protective covenant through Indiana Landmarks but the interior of both houses, which needs renovation, is yours to imagine.
