OHU50K NOTES
Welcome to Under $100K Sunday. We featured this home a few months ago, but as it is still on the market and I love this old house, I feel it deserves another go-round.
Although the realtor states the build date of this old mill worker’s house as 1900, the home was constructed decades earlier. The home was part of the 19th-century Leibhart Mill complex founded by Heinrich Leibhardt (1718-1773). Leibhardt came to this country from Germany as a boy, later receiving a Hellam land grant from the Penn family. The Leibharts operated mills in town for over a century.
The owner in the mid-1800’s was retired farmer George W. Leibhart (1809-1886) who lived down the road with his wife Casandra and children Elizabeth, Anna, Henry, Sarah, George and Edward. It seems logical that although George Leibhart (later spelling Libhart) never lived in this house himself, but he had it built for an employee/family member.
